Busking in the showbiz world is the equivalent of an entry-level job. Anyone can be a busker, all you need is a talent. A busker can be a musician, comedian, juggler, actor, dancer, magician, poet or a mime to name a few. But unlike professional artists that can demand a price for their entertainment, buskers rely on the generosity of passers by to make their living.

In London in particular street performers can be seen everywhere. From Trafalgar Square down to the tunnels of the tube, performers from all over the world are entertaining audiences in anyway they can.

Focusing on the London Underground Busking Scheme was the premises for all of our work. The scheme was enacted in 2003 and since then passengers enjoy more than 100,000 hours of live music perform every year by professional and talented buskers. This scheme works in the buskers favor as well because they are able to play for an audience of around 3.5 million Tube passengers each day, and reap the benefits.

The London Underground Busking Scheme has 39 pitches spread across 25 Central London stations. Each area is clearly defined by a semi circle floor graphic and a backdrop advertisement on the wall.
